Lights On Afterschool

Lights On Afterschool is a nationwide event held every October that aims to highlight the positive impact of after-school programs on young people and their communities. This past October, our Riis Academy programs organized several engaging events and activities to celebrate this important day and showcase the impactful youth development work at Riis.

Riis Academy-PS 171 hosted an open house, welcoming parents, families, and school administrators to explore presentations showcasing students’ hard work since the start of the school year. Parents expressed pride in their children’s achievements and gratitude for our efforts in promoting their educational growth. Riis Academy-Ravenswood started the day with students writing about their favorite after-school activities and decorating lightbulb-themed posters. Meanwhile, students from Riis Academy-PS166 marched outside with their lightbulbs and posters, proudly exclaiming, “Lights On After-school!” Riis Academy-PS76Q celebrated with a display of artwork in the gym, and students at Riis Academy-CS111 painted a giant banner expressing gratitude for after-school activities. A fun day was had by all!
