Riis Academy-PS76 offers comprehensive after-school programming for students in grades K-5th grade, under six core program areas.
Trained staff monitor daily school homework assignments and help children in various subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, with additional support offered to struggling students.
Participants develop life skills and take part in social emotional learning under six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
A project-based curriculum is infused with key school concepts and designed to develop creativity and literacy skills in young people. Activities include read-aloud, partner reading, and group discussions, along with drama, art, movement, and writing.
Visual arts sessions encompass painting, sculpture, photography, theater, dance, and more. Participants learn different art eras in art history, infused with academic skills practice like reading comprehension, writing, and geography.
Participants are actively engaged in physical fitness and wellness activities and learn about healthy bodies including stretching, nutrition, and the importance of exercising.
Participants rotate through a number of exciting clubs (art, dance, sports, fashion, media, movies) over the course of the year in 3-month intervals, with a culminating event at the end of each cycle.
