Cutting the Ribbon

Our community recently gathered to celebrate a new milestone—the arrival of our 16-seat van, designed to improve accessibility and provide a better travel experience for our older adult members. This much-needed addition ensures our members have reliable transportation to essential services, including medical appointments, social activities, and more.

This milestone was made possible thanks to former Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, whose leadership and support of participatory budgeting during his time in office brought this project to life. His advocacy—and the power of community-led decision-making—enabled us to secure this valuable resource for our older adult community.

We were delighted that Jimmy could join us to cut the ribbon on the new van and were also pleased to welcome representatives from the offices of State Senator Kristen Gonzalez and Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, who helped us recognize the impact of this new resource.

At Riis, we are committed to improving the quality of life for our older adult members. This van is just one example of our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and support for the community.
