UN International Day of Older Persons

On October 2, a group of participants from our Older Adult Center traveled to the United Nations (UN) headquarters to commemorate the 33rd UN International Day of Older Persons. The event, chaired by our Executive Director, Chris Hanway, centered on presenting sustainable intergenerational solutions to the challenges faced by older adults today. The theme, ‘Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations,’ emphasized solidarity and reciprocity as vital elements in combating ageism, and fostering an equitable society for all.

Riis NNORC Director Edna expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “The experience was very memorable and enjoyable for us all. We were delighted to hear speakers from around the world discuss the importance of making sure our older adults are able to age in place.”
