2nd Annual GIRL Convention at Riis Settlement

On Friday June 1, 2012, GIRL (Girls Inspiring Real Life) program participants gathered in Riis Settlement’s Queensbridge community center for the 2nd Annual GIRL Convention. This end-of-year event includes workshops conducted by girls themselves on topics they covered throughout the year. From issues concerning self-identity, leadership, self-expression and body image, participants shared their views and organized activities for family and friends. At the end of the workshops, girls were presented with certificates for completing the program; this event was followed by a ‘Moving Up Ceremony’ the next day at the Museum of the Moving Image, in which girls were accepted into the next level of the program and have the opportunity to work as peer mentors for incoming participants. Congratulations to all our graduates. Continue to inspire and be inspired!
