Congratulations to the Queensbridge Photo Collective, who celebrated the opening of their latest art exhibition at the Culture Lab on February 1st. The exhibit, titled “We are Queensbridge: A Portrait Series,” is a collection of 25 photographic portraits beautifully capturing the vibrant community of Queensbridge Houses.
The Collective, which includes photographers Shirley Mitchell, Victoria Heath, Dorothy Grant, Hazra Rahmad, Nafisa Mahdi, Marilyn Jones, Alese Cookie Parker, Karen Green, and Janie Edwards, are all residents of the Queensbridge Houses and participants in Riis’ Older Adult Service program. Over the past four years, they have honed their craft under the guidance of teaching artists Robbin Dahlberg and Nicole Rosenthal of the Five Corners Collective, Inc., culminating in their debut art exhibition at PS1 MOMA last year. The “We Are Queensbridge” exhibit is more than just a display of photographs; it is a celebration of the voices and stories of Queensbridge residents who deserve to be heard and valued in our society. The exhibit is on view at the Culture Lab now through March 3rd!
