Our Pregnancy and New Parent Program, sponsored by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, hosted a Perinatal Mental Health Workshop on Monday, December 9, in collaboration with the Hispanic Federation, creating a welcoming and informative space for families during a critical stage of parenthood. Designed for expectant and new mothers, the workshop aligned closely with the program’s mission to support families’ well-being and was offered in both English and Spanish to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all participants.
The workshop addressed topics such as postpartum depression, including how to recognize common symptoms and identify early warning signs. Facilitators emphasized the importance of understanding each individual’s unique mental health needs and provided guidance on connecting families with local support services. Participants were encouraged to engage openly; many shared personal testimonies and asked thoughtful questions, fostering a supportive and compassionate environment.
About 30 parents and caregivers attended the workshop, contributing to meaningful discussion and connection. To further support families, participants received baby supplies—including diapers, wipes, ointment, and other essentials.
Riis Settlement is proud to continue offering workshops like this one that empower families with knowledge, resources, and support during the perinatal period.
