Job Title: Community Liaison for Family Enrichment Center
Department: Community Engagement

The FEC Community Liaison will be instrumental in establishing and nurturing relationships with FEC staff, community partners, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess an engaging, empathetic communication style. The Community Liaison will work to strengthen the ties within the community, ensuring effective collaboration and support for the FEC’s initiatives. By fostering these connections, the liaison will play a crucial role in advancing the FEC’s mission and enhancing its impact on the community.

ABOUT THE FAMILY ENRICHMENT CENTER (FEC)

Supported by funding from the New York City Administration for Children Services (ACS) and the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB), the Family Enrichment Center (FEC) in Astoria will create a welcoming environment where community members can come together. The center offers a safe space for residents to connect, learn, and access essential resources for the betterment of families and individuals alike. Serving as a hub for support, FECs not only reflect the unique essence of the neighborhood but also provide direct assistance and valuable resources. What makes FECs special is their focus on community involvement; families actively participate in shaping the centers' activities and initiatives. By fostering connections and empowering residents, the FEC will contribute to the overall well-being and resilience of the Astoria community.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the daily operations of the FEC, including developing and sustaining a parent/advisory group, building partnerships with other organizations to address community needs, and fostering a welcoming environment where residents can access family support, information, and services.
  • Actively promote and recruit participants for FEC activities by presenting the organization's work to local community groups.
  • Build a network of resources by participating in community district committees, attending local school meetings, and forming relationships with local groups and business associations.
  • Greet newcomers warmly, proactively recruit volunteers, and ensure they feel like valued members of the team.
  • Assist in developing and managing communication strategies, including social media and newsletters, to keep the community informed and engaged with FEC initiatives and events.
  • Organize and oversee community outreach projects to identify and address emerging needs, ensuring the FEC's services remain relevant and impactful.

Qualifications

  • An Associate’s Degree in social work, public policy, education, public administration, or related field; and/or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish, Mandarin, Greek, or Bengali).
  • Lived and/or worked in Astoria or western Queens area preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect with and engage children, youth, and families.
  • Experienced in data entry, generating reports, and making data-driven program decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with experience in event planning or a similar capacity.
  • Warm, outgoing, and enthusiastic, with the ability to positively impact diverse groups.
  • Team-oriented, skilled at engaging commitment and promoting cooperation.
  • Experience in community organizing, political campaigns, and customer service preferred.
