As 2009 draws to a close, Riis Settlement participants and staff of all programs came together at various gatherings to celebrate the achievements of the past year, enjoyed the fellowship of friends and colleagues, and looked forward to another year of learning, support and fun! We wish to offer special thanks to two organizations that made this year’s celebrations possible and brought holiday cheer to over 300 individuals and families! TransCanada Corporation, a worldwide leader in responsible energy infrastructure and owner/operator of the nearby Ravenswood Generating Station, provided a generous $10,000 grant for holiday gifts and activities for our on-site participants. This wonderful donation wraps up a year of close collaboration between TransCanada and Riis Settlement in improving the lives of the residents of Queensbridge and Western Queens. Also, the New York Cares Winter Wishes program donated individualized, personally addressed gifts for over 100 after-school participants and brought extra joy to their lives and the lives of their families. We thank TransCanada Corporation, New York Cares, and all of our friends and supporters and wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Joyous Chanukah, and a Happy Kwanzaa! |
