Driver - Support Staff: Jacob Riis Settlement seeks a part time Driver responsible to provide reliable and courteous transportation service to Riis Settlement participants and agency staff. S/he will be responsible to drive a 10-14 passenger van on an assigned route to transport individuals to and from various locations. Also, the Driver will move and transport boxes and deliveries to and from the agency.  When not on assignment s/he will be designated to assist program staff in activities such as identifying additional event locations for trips and/or assisting in outreach activities. Part-Time Assistant Cook: Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House, is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Cook. The successful candidate will perform their responsibilities under the direction of the Head Cook which will include the overall operations of the kitchen including preparing, cooking, and serving meals to seniors, Youth Participants, and staff as required. Administrative Assistant: The Administrative Assistant will assist the Director of Senior Services with a variety of program and contractual tasks and data entry. S/he will be responsible for updating files, collecting and entering data, coordinating administrative functions and assisting with monitoring daily operations of our events and activities.  Additionally, the person will provide Case Assistance to senior participants and coordinate the collection and recording of the data to be filed. S/he will be responsible for communications via phone, fax, email, and regular mail to prospective participants regarding concerns and questions made in person, via mail, phone and email. S/he will work closely with the Program Coordinator. More

Janitor: The Janitor is responsible to keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. The janitor is also responsible for performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk. More

Immigrant Community Organizer: Riis Settlement seeks a bilingual (English/Spanish) consultant to work with us as a community organizer (10-15 hours per week) as we expand our advocacy work with immigrants in Western Queens. The community organizer will join a creative and dynamic team dedicated to advancing the rights of immigrant families in one of the most diverse boroughs in the country. We are seeking an individual who takes initiative and has a strong commitment to immigrant rights to lead our expansion of civic engagement programming. More

Winter 2012 Immigrant Services Volunteer Opportunities: Riis Settlement has the following volunteer opportunities available within the Immigrant Services Department: ESOL Computer Lab Volunteer, Conversation Partners, Citizenship Tutors, and Classroom Aides. More

Volunteer Translator: Riis Settlement Senior Services seeks a volunteer bi-lingual English/ Spanish speaker to translate for senior participants and staff. The volunteer is responsible for meeting with senior participants along with staff twice a week to address all senior participants’ and staff concerns. S/He will also conduct telephone reassurance. The volunteer is needed Mondays and Wednesdays four hours each day. More

Fall 2011 Immigrant Services Volunteer Opportunities: Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House, a community-based nonprofit in Long Island City, is offering the following volunteer opportunities: ESOL Computer Lab Volunteer, Conversation Partners, Citizenship Tutors, and Classroom Aides. We are looking for volunteers to work with our adult ESOL students during the program year, which runs from September 2011 to June 2012. We ask that volunteers commit to one two-hour session each week for the duration of one session, which generally lasts three to four months. More
